Thirsk-based Defender specialist, Twisted Automotive, has announced it’s sponsoring Jamaica in their first Rugby League World Cup.

Nicknamed the ‘Reggae Warriors’, Jamaica are the first Caribbean nation to qualify for a Rugby League World Cup. It’s only the second time a Jamaican team has featured at a World Cup in any sport.

Commenting on the deal, which sees the Twisted logo on the players’ shirts, Charles Fawcett, founder of Twisted Automotive, said, “Jamaica are seen as underdogs in the tournament in a group with New Zealand, Ireland and Lebanon. Who doesn’t love to cheer for the underdog?”

The Jamaica campaign is a true grassroots story. The team don’t have a stadium in Jamaica. They don’t even have a training ground, so they make do with public land for training sessions.

It’s little wonder Twisted Automotive has opted to support “David” in a tournament of Goliaths. As Charles Fawcett explained, “Twisted is a relatively small business in the automotive world, but we tackle hard. I know from experience that no matter the size of your team or resources available to you, being tenacious and working smart can bring victory. Good luck, Reggae Warriors.”

Jamaica start their World Cup group C campaign with a clash against Ireland on Sunday, October 16 (kick-off 5pm) at Headingley Stadium, Leeds. A Twisted 110 Utility in Jamaica livery will be displayed at Headingley’s fanzone enclosure.
